Giants head coach Ben McAdoo wears the worst suit ever

Fumble!

New Giants head coach Ben McAdoo sported an oversized pinstriped suit wide enough to cover MetLife Stadium to his inaugural press conference – and social media quickly sacked the 38-year-old coach for his sloppy style.

“When your football fans are calling you out for looking like you’re wearing a tarp or your father’s old suit, that’s just a mess,” said celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch, who’s also the creative style director for the NFL women’s apparel division. “You wouldn’t even want to be buried in this suit.”

The gigantic jacket swallowed his shape, and the scuffed brown shoes clashed with the black material.

“That thing is one big square,” added Tom Fitzgerald, cofounder of the Tom + Lorenzo fashion and lifestyle blog. “This was how men dressed in the ’90s, with those big David Byrne suits. It makes him look like he’s embarrassed about his body.”

McAdoo admitted to reporters that he’s far more comfortable in “sweats and a hoodie,” and that this suit fit him “about 60 pounds ago.”

Later, he told The News, “You could say I’m more comfortable in sweats and a hoodie. I like to grind. I like to work. It’s always good to have something you can grind in. But you have to be presentable as well.”

Stylists said McAdoo may prove to be a true field general, but that’s no excuse for not dressing like a leader.

“Just because you like football doesn’t mean you don’t have style. Look at people like Victor Cruz, Darrelle Revis and Tom Brady,” said Bloch. “This is your press conference. It sets a precedent. Everyone wants you to be a great coach, but in these social media times, appearance is everything.”

Fans were just as quick to call a personal foul on McAdoo’s suit.

“I can’t decide if Ben McAdoo’s suit is encouraging (Man, this guy only cares about football) or if it’s deeply, deeply unsettling,” tweeted Brian DiMenna.

Wearing a suit: The Xs and Os

NFL coaches rarely wear suits, except for their first — and last — press conferences. So in order to make sure McAdoo brings his sartorial A-game next time around, stylists offer their own coaching tips on wearing a suit — instead of letting the suit wear you.

1. Make sure the shoulder seams line up right. “It should cut right where a sleeveless shirt would cut, making a straight line separating the arm from the body,” said Fitzgerald. “In this case, the same slopes way out past his shoulder.”

2. Check the sleeve length. “I should be able to see the white cuff of his shirt peeking out about half an inch below the [coat] sleeve,” said Fitzgerald. “I can’t see that, so he’s either wearing a short-sleeved shirt, or his shirt sleeves are too short, or the jacket sleeve is too long.”

3. Crop the coat. “His jacket extends way too low,” said Fitzgerald. “It should rest just before the crotch of his pants. And the jacket needs to be taken in – the silhouette should be a broad shoulder and then slightly taper down into the waist.”

4. Hem the pants. “The pants are way too long,” said Fitzgerald, “and way too voluminous. You can fit both of his legs into one leg of the pants.” The idea is to find a sweet spot between skinny suit that would be favored by a smaller man, and something that makes him look like he’s still 60 pounds heavier.

5. Match the shoes. “If you’re wearing a black suit, wear brown shoes,” said Bloch. “If you’re not wearing a brown suit or a gray suit, do not wear brown shoes. Plus, these shoes look beaten up and dirty like he’s played football in them. He looks like he wasn’t prepared to come to play today.
