CLARCAM, a dual Grade 1 winner as a novice last season, and Bright New Dawn, runner-up in the Clonmel Oil Chase and the Hilly Way Chase, represent Gordon Elliott in this event sponsored by the company that also sponsors his powerful County Meath yard.

Jacques Ricou, five-time champion jockey in France, partners topweight Clarcam. Ricou went close to landing the valuable Paddy Power Handicap Chase on the stable’s Ucello Conti at Leopardstown last month and he will be seeking a first win in Ireland on the six-year-old Clarcam, who will be making his handicap debut.

Rising star Jack Kennedy claims 5lb off Bright New Dawn, who finished second behind Mallowney in this event a year ago.

Third a year ago on his only start in a handicap, Days Hotel, a four-time winner at Grade 2 level, represents Henry de Bromhead and will be bidding for a first win in almost two years.

Willie Mullins, successful with Turban two years ago, runs Tennis Cap and Mozoltov.

Nama’d will feel at home
Nearly Nama’d, whose trainer Sandra Hughes also runs Guitar Pete, is the only course-and-distance winner in the line-up and is up 7lb for that victory in November, when he beat subsequent Paddy Power Handicap Chase winner Minella Foru. Guitar Pete will wear a tongue-tie for the first time.

What they say
Gordon Elliott, trainer of Clarcam and Bright New Dawn
Clarcam is running in a handicap for the first time and has plenty of weight. The ground won’t be ideal for him, but he’s in good form and we’re letting him take his chance. Bright New Dawn has been running well and the ground will definitely suit him better than Clarcam. We’ve got Jack Kennedy taking 5lb off his back. The horse is in good form and should have a decent chance.

Willie Mullins, trainer of Mozoltov and Tennis Cap
Mozoltov had been off a long time before being very disappointing at Cheltenham last month. He ran no sort of race there and was eventually pulled up. We think he’s in better form now but you couldn’t be any way confident about him. Tennis Cap will love the ground and the trip. He ran well at Gowran Park following his summer break. You’d imagine improvement on that.

Henry de Bromhead, trainer of Days Hotel
He seems in good form and the ground and the trip will suit, so we’re hoping for a good run.

Sandra Hughes, trainer of Nearly Nama’d and Guitar Pete
Nearly Nama’d is very well. We’ve been happy with him since his course-and-distance win in November and he handles testing ground. We’re looking forward to a big run. Guitar Pete is a good jumper. He’s had a run in a handicap and we think dropping him in distance will suit.

John Ryan, trainer of Draycott Place
He’s fit and well and in right order. He stays further on better ground but two-mile-one is probably as far as he wants when it’s very testing.
