The Yankees avoided arbitration with Didi Gregorius, announcing Tuesday that they had agreed to a one-year deal with their incumbent shortstop.

Gregorius, who had a fine first season as the man who replaced Derek Jeter, will make $2.425 million in 2016, a baseball source said. after the two sides settled. Gregorius had filed an arbitration figure of $2.525 million and the Yankees countered at $2.3 million.

The deal leaves the Yankees with three remaining arbitration-eligible players – Aroldis Chapman, Nathan Eovaldi and Ivan Nova. Chapman and the Yanks are $4.1 million apart – he submitted a $13.1 million salary and the Yanks filed at $9 million.

Gregorius, who turns 26 next month, batted .265 with a .318 on-base percentage and .370 slugging last season. He also had nine home runs, 24 doubles and 56 RBI. He excelled in the second half, recording a slash line of .294/.345/.417 with five homers in 74 games.

Gregorius was recently ranked 10th on MLB Network’s list of top 10 shortstops in the game entering the ’16 season, finishing one spot behind Andrelton Simmons. Cleveland’s Francisco Lindor was first, followed by Toronto’s Troy Tulowitzki.

The rankings, the network said, took into account “a number of offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced and traditional, plus projections for the upcoming season.”
