Conflicting reports on status of Johnny Manziel probe

A decision on possible criminal charges against Johnny Manziel related to his alleged domestic violence incident could be coming Thursday, according to the Dallas/Forth-Worth NBC affiliate. Reporter Jeff Smith tweeted that the investigation was completed by a detective and a supervisor was reviewing the report.

The Dallas Morning News had reported that the lead detective assigned to the Manziel case was assigned a two-week patrol rotation which was delaying possible charges against Manziel. A police spokeswoman told the Morning News the NBC report that the investigation was complete was “the first I’ve heard of that.”

Police have been investigating whether Manziel hit his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley and threatened to kill her on Jan. 31. Crowley reportedly said she was hit so hard in her left ear that she had trouble hearing.

Johnny Manziel is being investigated over an alleged domestic violence incident with his ex.

A determination on criminal charges was expected this week, but a revival of a community policing program by Dallas police chief David Brown resulted in the lead investigator being put on patrol duty.

The Morning News reported that the Dallas Police Association was critical of the effort, which has put detectives and officers who haven’t patrolled in years back on the streets.

“The department is in chaos,” Dallas Police Association president Ron Pinkston told the paper Wednesday.
