Clippers name mascot, Chuck the Condor, Steve Ballmer dunks

The bird is the word in Los Angeles.

Chuck the Condor was introduced as the Clippers’ new mascot on Monday at the Staples Center during halftime of their game against the Nets.

Named after the extinct California condor and the Chuck Taylor sneakers he wears, the Clippers mascot made his public debut as he was lowered from the rafters onto the court where he danced and dunked off a trampoline.

Clippers fans had a lukewarm reaction to their new mascot, who is already on Twitter, but owner Steve Ballmer revived the crowd by promising red Converse sneakers to everyone if he could dunk.

Ballmer then sprung off the trampoline to throw down a dunk of his own.

No word on how fellow bird mascots Pierre the Pelican or Harry the Hawk feel about Chuck’s arrival.
