Losing is taking a toll on Carmelo Anthony.

BOSTON — A frustrated Carmelo Anthony admitted on Friday he needs to”figure out a way to get out”  of the worst three-year stretch of his career.

The answer was in response to a question about being envious that three of his best friends — LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade — who all play for championship contending teams while the Knicks will likely missed the playoffs for a third straight season.

“I don’t think envy is kind of the right word,” Anthony said Friday morning. “I do look at my peers and say, ‘Damn, what am I doing wrong? I should be there.’ There was one point in time where they were looking at me like that. Made (the playoffs) 10, 11 years straight.

“Right now it’s kind of a rough patch for me. I’m trying to figure out a way to get out of it.”

Anthony could find a way out of New York this summer by waiving his no-trade clause but as recently as three weeks ago he said he is committed to the Knicks.

However, a third straight losing season as well as the events from the past few days could test Anthony’s resolve.

Anthony had what appeared to be a non-threatening exchange with a fan during Tuesday’s loss to Portland where he pointed at Garden Chairman James Dolan and told the heckler to ask the Knicks owner for a refund.

The Knicks issued an apology from Anthony the following day on their Twitter account. Anthony did not post the apology on his own Twitter account. The following day, he revealed “Mr. Dolan” asked him to issue a public apology. Anthony maintains that he did not use profanity and felt he was not out of line.

On Wednesday, Anthony did not attend the Knicks annual charity bowling event, which is mandatory.

“I was with family,” Anthony said. “I had something to do with the family.”

Anthony added that he has not spoken to team president Phil Jackson about the incident, saying “We don’t talk on a daily basis.

“It wasn’t that big of a deal to the people that really knew what was going on.”

Anthony agreed with the theory that he is under more scrutiny than most All Stars.

“I just accept it,” he said. “I came to grips with that a long time ago, that that’s going to be the way it is.”
