Carmelo Anthony hopes recent migraine is ‘one-time thing’

Carmelo Anthony suffers his first migraine since his days in Denver.

The symptoms of Carmelo Anthony’s migraine headache have subsided — even if the losing surrounding the Knicks has not — and the All-Star was back on the practice court Tuesday exhausted, happy and steering clear of any controversy.

“I’ve got no drama for y’all today,” Anthony, who has been at the center of the Knicks’ circus of the last six weeks, said as he began his media session. “I don’t have none.”

Two days prior, Anthony couldn’t complete a walkthrough because of the pain and retreated home before the Knicks lost to the Kings. A day before that, Anthony was on the foul line in Washington when “the lights just started flickering, everything started flickering. The basket was wavering.

ISOLA: KNICKS NOT HELPING CARMELO ANTHONY’S MIGRAINE

“If anybody has had migraines, you know it kind of drains you and kind of takes everything away from you.”

Anthony, who said he’ll return to the lineup Wednesday in Chicago for a nationally televised game, hadn’t experienced a migraine since joining the Knicks in 2011. But Anthony had recurring migraines in his Denver days. He continued to play Saturday after the onset of symptoms.

“I probably should have took myself out of the game at that point in time,” Anthony said. “Those are nothing to play with.”

KNICKS MAILBAG: TRADING ANTHONY WOULD BE A DISASTER

Other athletes who have dealt with chronic migraines include Anthony’s buddy, Dwyane Wade, and Serena Williams. Anthony said he’s not at the point of taking added precautions before games, where the bright lights can trigger an attack.

“Hopefully it was a one-time thing,” he said. “If it comes back I’ll take the proper procedures and figure it out.”

Interim coach Kurt Rambis recognized that his top scorer was excited to get back on the court.

“He looked a little tired to me but he went through everything in practice with enthusiasm,” interim coach Kurt Rambis said. “There was a smile on his face and that was a good sign.”

One thing that hasn’t changed is the Knicks’ futility without Anthony. With Sunday’s loss to the Kings, they are 0-8 this season when the 31-year-old doesn’t play.

Since the start of last season, the Knicks have lost 43 of the 50 games Anthony has missed.

They are also set to miss the playoffs for a third straight year and are riding a three-game losing streak heading into their back-to-back, home-and-home set against the Bulls.

“Guys that’s here, especially the young guys, they should just go out there and just — I mean fun might not be the best word — but just take advantage of this time this opportunity the last couple weeks of the season,” Anthony said.

WROTEN WAITS
Newly signed Tony Wroten observed practice for the first time Tuesday but Rambis revealed that the point guard probably won’t participate in any sessions this season. Wroten, 22, is rehabbing from ACL surgery and is building back strength in his leg. The plan is for Wroten, who is signed through next season on a minimal guarantee, to participate in the July Summer League.

“It’s my understanding he’s not physically ready to do that and there’s not enough time left in the season for (him to practice this season),” Rambis said. “He has some deficits in his leg in terms of strength and size. They’re not matching up. So you don’t want to put him out there his leg is weak and that can contribute to another problem. As it stands today, there’s not a chance he’s going to go through live practices.”
