Bojan Bogdanovic lights up the scoreboard with 44 points, including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc.

The Nets’ 2015-16 season has been one to forget, but Tuesday night in Brooklyn, Bojan Bogdanovic put on a performance to remember.

The second-year Croatian forward scored a career-high 44 points on 17 of 27 shooting – including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc – leading the Nets to a 131-114 victory over the Sixers at the Barclay’s Center. The win ended a four-game skid for the Nets and avenged the team’s loss in Philadelphia this past weekend.

Brook Lopez scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and drained just his second three of the season. Thaddeus Young added 14 points and a season-high 16 rebounds, while Yonkers native Sean Kilpatrick scored 19 points off the bench. But it was the 26-year-old Bogdanovic who led the way with the best performance of his young career.

Bogdanovic got it going early offensively, scoring Brooklyn’s first nine points by finding openings around the rim. He then backed to up to show off his long-range shot, burying two threes, as the Nets finished the first quarter with a 17-point lead they never relinquished.

The Sixers were without four rotation players, including Jahlil Okafar, who will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn meniscus in his knee. Robert Covington, Jerami Grant and Richaun Holmes all suffered injuries in the Sixers’ win over the Nets on Friday. Covington left that game on a stretcher after being kicked in the jaw. They all missed Tuesday night’s rematch.

The Sixers, already talent-depleted to begin with, struggled without enough bodies, particularly in the frontcourt. Not only did they start the game 6 of 26 from the field, but their play was ugly and sloppy. Errant passes sailed out of play, unforced turnovers led to transition baskets, wide-open layups fell short, and the Nets capitalized.

The Nets finally have reason to smile as they snap a four-game skid with Tuesday’s victory.

The Sixers turned it over 17 times in the contest, leading to 24 fast-break points from Brooklyn.

Bogdanovic was the primary scorer of the transition baskets, leaking out for easy lay-ins and dunks all game. He added another 14 points in the third quarter.

Ish Smith (18 points, six assists, three rebounds) and Nerlens Noel (16 points, six rebounds) dazzled with a thunderous alley-oop early in the second half, and Isaiah Canaan led the team with 20 points of 5 of 10 shooting from downtown, but those were just about the only bright spots for the Sixers, who had a sizable contingent at Barclay’s.

With their team losing, the Philly fans led chants of “Trust the process!” – a mantra of general manager Same Hinkie – and “We have draft picks!” – a shot at the Nets’ asset-clearing trades from years past.

The latter chant has some truth. The Nets are in a deep hole without much hope for improvement. But Tuesday night, Bogdanovic provided a brief reprieve for the Brooklyn fans – some excitement in a season that’s been lacking it.
