Three reasons Rajon Rondo is not a good fit for the Knicks

The Knicks are in desperate need of a point guard, but is Rajon Rondo really the right fit?

Despite the counterarguments from Carmelo Anthony and Phil Jackson, Rajon Rondo is correct — he’s not a good fit for the triangle, and here are three reasons why:

1. He can’t shoot and requires the ball in his hands to be successful. The point guards of Jackson’s championship teams were secondary to their backcourt colleague. They were role players who were asked to hit open shots, not create: Derek Fisher, John Paxson, B.J. Armstong, Steve Kerr… Rondo is a pick-and-roll point guard who doesn’t mesh with an offense that shuns pick-and-rolls.

2. Talent-wise Rondo is an upgrade over who the Knicks have in their backcourt but there are reasons to question whether he was ever an elite player, or just a product of a great cast in Boston. Since Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett left his side and Rondo tore his ACL, the 30-year-old underwhelmed with the Celtics, bombed with the Mavericks (seeing him in Rick Carlisle’s pace-and-space system was difficult) and is currently quarterbacking an undisciplined and underachieving team in Sacramento.

3. To put it nicely, Rondo is a handful. To put it another way, he’s a pain in the ass. There have been several controversies but we’ll highlight ONE of the latest: he was suspended this season for using anti-gay slurs on a referee who is gay, Bill Kennedy.
