VICTORIA PENDLETON will be back in action in the point-to-point sphere on Saturday, while her Cheltenham partner Pacha Du Polder is being prepared for a crack at the Crabbie’s Fox Hunters’ Chase at Aintree, in which jockey Will Biddick believes the nine-year-old has “a right shout” following his festival heroics.

Pacha Du Polder is a general 5-1 chance in his quest to deprive On The Fringe of a second Cheltenham-Aintree double, having finished a bold-jumping second in the race under Biddick 12 months ago.

“He’s a bit of a pro really and I think he’s better than last year if that’s possible,” said Biddick. “I’m not sure if On The Fringe is as good as last year. He’s still very good but he’s just not looking quite as impressive.”

Biddick finished half a length ahead of Pendleton and Pacha Du Polder in the Foxhunter at Cheltenham when partnering the Rose Loxton-trained Current Event.

“Pacha was my ride for Cheltenham until Betfair got involved,” said Biddick. “Looking at the re-run of the race, the way Pacha finished, I don’t think he would have had a hard race. Knowing the way he handled Aintree and the performance he put up last year, he’s a good one to be on.”

Stamina is no concern

The Aintree Fox Hunters’ is more than half a mile shorter than the Cheltenham version, but Biddick believes Pacha Du Polder showed greater stamina than previously under Pendleton.

“I rode him last year [at Aintree] as if that was his trip, but the way he was ridden at Cheltenham he finished like a train,” said Biddick. “There will be a little bit of thought about how he is ridden, purely to beat On The Fringe. I can’t wait and I think he has a right shout.”

Pendleton back in the pointing field

Pendleton herself will be back in action aboard According To Sarah for Alan and Lawney Hill in the Kimblewick Hunt members’ race tomorrow, near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire.

“Victoria was delighted with the way everything went at Cheltenham and she is very much looking forward to riding on Easter Saturday at Kimble,” said Lawney Hill.

“She is then going to have a little break for a couple of weeks and is hoping to return when she gets back from holiday. I think she got smitten very quickly and she loves the whole amateur sport of point-to-pointing.”
