RACING AT Doncaster will go ahead as planned on Friday afternoon after the course passed a morning inspection.

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan elected to take another look at 10am after the course had a light covering of snow on Friday morning.

However, with conditions thawing quickly, Duncan brought his inspection forward and said: “The snow has gone now, so there are no issues there.

“I am content to leave the going as I called it before the inspection, which was good to soft, soft in places.”

More rain to come

Doncaster is also set to host racing on Saturday, when the feature will be the BetBright Grimthorpe Chase.

Duncan is expecting more rain throughout Friday night and believes the course could be soft by the time the race is run.

“For Saturday, we’ve got another 5mm to 7mm of rain forecast for overnight and one might expect it to be pretty much soft all round at best if we get that,” he said.

No problems elsewhere in UK but Gowran to look

Doncaster’s was the sole inspection on Friday morning, with Newbury soft, good to soft in places on the hurdle course and good to soft, soft in places on the chase course.

There is also racing on Friday at Lingfield and Wolverhampton, where the going on the all-weather is standard for both meetings.

Saturday’s meeting at Gowran Park is under threat, however, with snow falling at the Irish venue on Friday morning.

Officials there will inspect the course at 3pm on Friday afternoon, with Saturday’s feature the 2m2f Holden Plat Rentals Shamrock Handicap Chase.
