LAKELAND, Fla. — James Kaprielian retired all six batters he faced in his spring training debut, but the Yankees’ 2015 first-round pick did leave the outing with one regret.

He didn’t get to face Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera.

“That was the one guy I wanted to pitch to, the one guy I wanted to face and I didn’t get to,” said Kaprielian, who worked the fifth and sixth innings — after the two-time MVP had been removed from the Tigers’ eventual 3-0 victory. “Maybe I’ll face him another time.”

The 22-year-old former UCLA star hasn’t pitched above Single-A Staten Island, but the righthander said he wants “to give (the Yankees) a better look at who I am and what I’m about.

“Obviously I’m not fighting for a starting spot in the rotation right now,” he added, “but I just want to go out there and compete like I am.”

Joe Girardi clearly was impressed by Kaprielian’s two innings, which featured strikeouts of Jose Iglesias and Ian Kinsler, as he’s been by the maturity the rookie has exhibited in his first big-league camp.

“I thought he threw the ball really well,” Girardi said. “I think he’s pretty mature for his age — his poise, his stuff, his confidence in himself.”

HIT AND MISS
After Luis Severino broke Tigers outfielder Cameron Maybin’s wrist with a pitch Wednesday, Bryan Mitchell plunked Kinsler Friday. Justin Verlander then plunked Yanks outfielder Cesar Puello.

Girardi didn’t believe Verlander’s pitch was retaliatory, and Verlander told reporters he didn’t think any of the three pitches were intentional, although Detroit manager Brad Ausmus warned “we won’t take kindly to it if it continues.”
