Greg Bird’s 2016 season ends before it even begins due to a recurring shoulder injury.

The once-promising future of Greg Bird now looks uncertain after the Yankees announced the young first baseman will miss the 2016 season with a right shoulder injury.

The Yankees confirmed that Bird, 23, will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder, which he first suffered in May 2015.

This latest diagnosis is a recurrence of the original injury.

Bird hit .261 with 11 HR and 31 RBI last season, his rookie campaign with the Yankees.

His surgery will be performed by Dr. David Altchek at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
