L’AMI SERGE suffered a shock reverse at Warwick where he was comfortably beaten by 8-1 shot Violet Dancer.

Sent off at 1-5 for what was expected to be a routine victory, L’Ami Serge was in trouble turning for home and a blunder at the last fence put paid to any chance he had.

Sky Bet pushed L’Ami Serge out to 16-1 (from 6) for the Racing Post Arkle – for which they make Douvan just 2-5 (from 1-2), as do BoyleSports – but unsurprisingly connections ruled out running in that race.

Anthony Bromley, racing manager to L’Ami Serge’s owners, said: “It’s safe to say he won’t be running in the Arkle and we’ll have to see how he is in the next few days if he will run [in the JLT]. He was jumping to his left more than usual and that was disappointing.”

The Gary Moore-trained winner is likely to head to the Arkle according to connections and is a general 25-1 shot for the race.

Winning rider Jamie Moore said: “He’s very genuine and tough and hard like a lot of Dad’s. I thought I’d serve it up to L’Ami Serge down the hill and again turning in.

“He can hit the odd fence, but he’s a very hard horse and has won impressively.”
