Jared Allen rides off after an NFL career that included 136 career sacks.

Jared Allen wanted to actually ride off into the sunset. Unfortunately for him, there was no sunset.

The Panthers defensive end posted a video on Twitter Thursday morning announcing his retirement after 12 seasons in the NFL. His caption was “Riding off into the sunset,” but as he acknowledged in the video, it wasn’t there.

“Hey everyone. I just want to say thank you for an amazing 12-year career,” Allen said, wearing a cowboy hat while atop a horse. “This is the part where I was gonna ride off into the sunset, but seeing as there’s no sunset, I’m just gonna ride off.”

Allen then gave a quick wave, turned the horse around and took off.

The 33-year-old rides off without capturing a Super Bowl, narrowly missing out in his final season as the Panthers fell to the Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

Allen had 136 career sacks, which is tied with Julius Peppers for ninth all-time. He spent his first four seasons with the Chiefs before he played six seasons with the Vikings. After spending 2014 with the Bears, they traded him to Carolina during the 2015 season. He posted a career-high 22 sacks in 2011.
