USA: Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Tepin, who won easily on her seasonal debut at Tampa Bay on Sunday, is being considered for a trip to Royal Ascot in June.

Ascot’s director of racing and communications Nick Smith has confirmed discussions to entice the Mark Casse-trained mare over for the Queen Anne Stakes have taken place and connections are flattered by the attention.

“We had been thinking about taking her to Ascot way back after she won the Breeders’ Cup Mile last year,” owner Bob Masterson told the Thoroughbred Daily News. “Now, they’ve reached out to us and asked us to come. That alone is quite a thrill and an honour.”

Tepin, who has won six of her last eight starts, landed the Breeders’ Cup Mile by two and a quarter lengths, beating the David O’Meara-trained Mondialiste into second, and was crowned the nation’s leading turf filly or mare at the Eclipse Awards.

“Sometimes in this sport you have to do the sporting thing,” added Masterson. “She might just be a once-in-a-lifetime horse and when you get a horse like that you need to take advantage of the opportunities. I think it would be a great thrill to go over there and compete in a race as prestigious as the Queen Anne.”

Following Tepin’s commanding return to action, the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile at Keeneland in April emerged as the next big-race target, while a return visit to the Breeders’ Cup has been mentioned as her primary target for the season.
