Preview: USA, Monday 10.30pm GMT

Santa Anita: San Vicente Stakes (Grade 2) 7f, dirt, 3yo

BREEDERS’ CUP Juvenile winner Nyquist (Doug O’Neill/Mario Gutierrez) bids to take his career record to a blemish-free six out of six when he makes his three-year-old debut at Santa Anita in the San Vicente Stakes, highlight of Monday’s Presidents’ Day bank holiday programme.

“He’s shown us he’s going to run a winning race,” said O’Neill, who is eyeing next month’s Florida Derby after Nyquist’s comeback outing as his route to the Kentucky Derby.

“It’s all about what’s in the best interest of the horse and the ultimate goal is the First Saturday in May.”

Last year’s champion two-year-old has the inside draw against five opponents, headed by Delta Downs Jackpot winner Exaggerator (Keith Desormeaux/Kent Desormeaux), who was fourth at the Breeders’ Cup.

Ladbrokes: 4-7 Nyquist, 5-2 Exaggerator, 12 Sheikh Of Sheikhs, 14 Denman’s Call, 20 El Charro, 50 Electrifying.

Also on Monday

Oaklawn: Southwest Stakes (Grade 3) 1m½f, dirt, 3yo 11.09pm GMT

Bob Baffert sent American Pharoah down the Arkansas path to the Triple Crown in 2015; he’s back at Oaklawn again for this lavishly endowed Grade 3 contest with Sham Stakes winner Collected (Martin Garcia), who breaks from the rail.

Local star Discreetness (William Fires/Jon Court) breaks from the outside of a 14-runner field; the pair must give weight to their rivals.
