Unchanged South Africa bowl in knockout clash; Holder fit

Jason Holder recovered from a hamstring twinge to captain West Indies in their must-win match over South Africa in the last round-robin match of the triangular series in Barbados. The winner of this fixture will take on Australia in Sunday’s final.

With the outcome of their tour hinging on this game, AB de Villiers wanted to know exactly how many runs his team will need to chase. An unchanged XI meant a first proper go for Morne Morkel, who sat out the Guyana and St Kitts legs and did not have the chance to make an impact in last Sunday’s wash-out against Australia. South Africa opted for a sole specialist spinner in their XI, with three other pacers in Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell and Chris Morris.

Despite conditions expected to offer some assistance to the quicks, West Indies, also unchanged, chose to persist with both their specialist spinners – Sunil Narine and Sulieman Benn. Holder, who only managed two overs in Tuesday’s match against Australia, would lead the attack with Carlos Brathwaite and Shannon Gabiriel as support.

West Indies: 1 Johnson Charles, 2 Andre Fletcher, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Jason Holder (capt), 8 Carlos Brathwaite, 9 Sulieman Benn, 10 Sunil Narine, 11 Shannon Gabriel

South Africa: 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Faf du Plessis, 4 AB de Villiers (capt), 5 JP Duminy, 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Chris Morris, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 Kagiso Rabada, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Imran Tahir
