Tiger Woods tweets video of him simulating swing in basement

Tiger Woods may need to dig up a green jacket when it gets drafty in his basement.

If Woods himself is to be believed, the road to recovery is underway. And it begins, apparently, with some in-house simulation.

Woods made a limp attempt to dispel the rumors that his back problems have worsened by tweeting a video of his swing with the caption “progressing nicely.” Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent, confirmed that the video was shot Wednesday morning, according to CNN.

The drive doesn’t travel very far, at least in reality, because it thuds into a simulation screen that then projects where the ball might have ended up. It’s a pretty decent shot that lands on the green, proving Woods would still be a force to reckon with in Wii Golf.

Whether or not the simulated video will satisfy Woods’ detractors is unclear. Robert Lusetich, the author of “Unplayable: An Inside Account of Tiger’s Most Tumultuous Season,” tweeted Monday that Woods “can’t move well” and that it’s painful for him to sit.

Steinberg publicly called those rumors “ridiculous and absolutely false.”

“It’s reprehensible that every few months someone makes something up and it’s treated like a real story,” Steinberg said in a statement. “Tiger continues to work on his rehabilitation and we will have an accurate update at the appropriate time.”

After participating in the Wyndham Championship in August, Woods underwent his third microdiscectomy and has not competed since. In early December he said there was “no timetable” for his return.

Though the timing question has not yet been answered, at least part of Steinberg’s statement was proven true. Woods is clearly working towards recovery, even if it’s happening in a dark room in his house.
