Tony Brown makes his debut as Nets head coach and suffers a blowout loss to the Spurs.

Tony Brown wasn’t even three minutes into his first media huddle since becoming the Nets’ interim head coach when a test of the Barclays Center fire alarm system interrupted him mid-sentence.

“That’s a good start, huh,” Brown joked, before resuming his thoughts on replacing Lionel Hollins, who was fired Sunday in a mid-season house cleaning by team owner Mikhail Prokhorov.

“This is a fresh start for all of us, including me,” Brown said on Monday morning. “It’s a blank canvas.”

The first brushstrokes, as expected, weren’t a work of art. The Nets fell 106-79 to the San Antonio Spurs, who extended their winning streak to eight games. Brooklyn is now 10-28, with 10 consecutive losses at home.

“We’re in a rough stretch,” Brown said after the game. “It’s easy to get down on yourself. It’s easy to not compete when you’re getting your behind kicked on certain nights. And my job is to keep them encouraged.”

Brown followed through on pre-game predictions that Brooklyn’s bench would get more playing time, something Brown said Prokhorov called for in a meeting the two men had on Monday morning. Donald Sloan made his first start as a Net and second-year Sergey Karasev of Russia made a rare appearance, scoring two points in his first possession.

“The Spurs are just a tough team to beat,” said Thaddeus Young. “They’re one of those teams that’s a solid veteran team that you have to be on top of your game.”

Although LaMarcus Aldridge had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the 33-6 Spurs, the team’s real star of the night was Serbian rookie Boban Marjanovic, a 7-foot-3, 290-pound center who scored 13 points in 13 minutes of play, including two dunks that required only the smallest of leaps.

Marjanovic, who wears size 19 shoes, has developed a cult following this season. There is a “Did Boban Play?” Twitter account, and fans cheer for him every time he touches the ball.

“I enjoy it every time,” he said in the locker room, regarding the fan support he’s gotten this season. “They give me support and some energy. It’s good. I don’t drink Red Bull, but they give me wings.”

Brook Lopez, the Nets team’s leading scorer this season, had 18 points on Monday. Ahead of the game, he said the initial shock of the staff changes — along with Hollins, Billy King was dismissed Sunday as general manager — had given way to some positive energy.

“Turnover can be difficult, we’re fortunate we have a good group of guys,” Lopez said. “I can see us coming together through this. We had great energy in shootaround. Tony seems focused taking over.”

Young said Brown — a former Net who has been with the team’s coaching staff for a season and a half — was “a guy that we believe in as players and are going to follow behind.” He said Brown lost his voice by halftime shouting plays and encouragement.

“This isn’t my first rodeo, I’ve been here before,” said Young. “I’ve been in these type of situations. I’ve seen a lot of different GMs, a lot of different coaches. You just continue to play, continue to work hard, bring that intensity into practice and games every day, and hopefully it changes.”
