Preview: South Africa Saturday  12.55pm GMT

Kenilworth: Investec Cape Derby (Grade 1) 1m 2fturf, 3yo

BRAZUCA (Johan Janse van Vuuren/Weichong Marwing) is the form horse after taking second in the Cape Guineas but there are stamina doubts about the Teofilo colt as he is out of a mare by top sprinter Choisir. However his trainer does not share them.

Van Vuuren said: “There is no stamina in the pedigree and at one stage I thought he wouldn’t even get a mile but now I believe he will definitely stay the trip.”

Black Arthur (Justin Snaith/Bernard Fayd’Herbe) won the principal trial for this, the nine furlong Politician Stakes, when he came from a long way back and had Marinaresco (Mike Bass/Grant van Niekerk) three-quarters of a length back second with Liege (Sean Tarry/S’Manga Khumalo) a short head away third and Kemal Kavur (Vaughan Marshall/Anton Marcus) another half length back in fourth.

Snaith said: “Black Arthur has a good draw this time and we don’t want to be coming from so far back.”

Kenilworth: Klawervlei Majorca Stakes (Grade 1) 1m, turf, 3yo+ f/m 1.35pm GMT

Same Jurisdiction (Duncan Howells/Anton Marcus) had a bad draw and found the trip a fraction too far when only fourth to Smart Call in the nine furlong Paddock Stakes a fortnight ago. She is fractionally odds-on here after putting up a particularly good piece of work last weekend.

The biggest danger would appear to be Inara (Mike Bass/Grant van Niekerk) who won this 12 months ago and was nearly a length and a half in front of Same Jurisdiction when second in the Paddock Stakes.

Kenilworth: CTS Million Dollar 7f, turf, 3yo 2.40pm GMT

The first running of this restricted sales race is worth more than four times as much as any other race in South Africa and, as a result, is widely expected to be a rough affair with jockeys jostling for position. Senior stipe Ernie Rodrigues is to speak to the jockeys beforehand and warn them that the penalties for rule-breaking will be far higher than normal.

Cape Fillies Guineas winner Silver Mountain (Mike Bass/Aldo Domeyer) is hot favourite but there are others with strong claims, notably Exit Here (Charles Laird/Anthony Delpech) who has won his last five.

Laird said: “He is very well and worked well on the racecourse on Tuesday when I wanted to show him a left-handed turn.”

Seventh Plain (Dennis Drier/Anton Marcus) is the top-rated colt but has bad draw almost on the outside.

Drier said: “He is spot on and I thought he put up a hell of a good performance in the Sophomore last time. It’s hard to give up-and-coming three-year-olds the weight that he did.”
