FRANKEL continued his remarkable record as a sire as Seven Heavens won impressively on debut at Ascot.

Unbeaten in 14 runs on the track, Frankel retired to stud in 2012 and his progeny have continued his dominance, with each of the six to so far race all winning.

Cunco gave Frankel his first winner back in May at Newbury and followed that up with a superb third in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. Likewise Queen Kindly, having won on debut also came third at the Royal meeting, behind Brave Anna in the Albany Stakes.

Heavenly start

Racing in the colours of Frankel’s owner, Khalid Abdullah, Seven Heavens was well fancied to make a winning start, and was not cheap, fetching 620,000 guineas as a yearling.

Having travelled sweetly to the front, the colt began to assert in the final furlong, with jockey Robert Havlin enjoying the victory.

“He’s a nice horse,” Havlin said. “They didn’t go very quick early on, and following Tom (Marquand on Monoshka) he was struggling after three and a half furlongs and couldn’t take me any further, so literally from the two-pole to the line he had to do it all on his own.

“He’s never been off the bridle in his life before, so it was a big ask, and he just got a little bit lonely and just started to drift to the left a little. I was impressed with him.

“I’ve ridden two Frankels now and they’ve both wanted to get on with things at home, but come raceday they are as good as gold.”

Classic aspirations

Seventh Heaven holds an entry for next year’s Derby, and was cut to 16-1 for the 2017 Classic, but is available at 33-1 for the race with other firms.
