Olivier Vernon has 29 sacks over four seasons in the NFL.

The Giants blew away the rest of the free agent market on Wednesday by landing the best available defensive end (Olivier Vernon), defensive tackle (Damon Harrison) and corner (Janoris Jenkins), but it cost them $193.75 million in contracts and $105.5 million in guaranteed money.

So what did the Giants get for their spending spree? With the help of two NFL scouts, here’s a closer look:

DE OLIVIER VERNON

Vitals: 6-2, 275, Age: 25

Stats: 7 ½ sacks last season, 29 in four NFL seasons. Played all 64 games in his career.

Cost: 5 years, $85 million, $52.5 million guaranteed ($54 million in first three years)

Scouting report: He’s explosive and speedy, which is everything you’d want in an edge rusher. He’ll get to the quarterback. Sometimes goes too wide and takes himself out of the play, which hurts his run defense too. Considering how athletic he is, you’d think he’d have more sacks. Had a strong second half last year.

CB JANORIS JENKINS

Vitals: 5-10, 198, Age: 27

Stats: 3 INTs last season, 10 in four NFL seasons. Missed only four games in four years.

Cost: 5 years, $62.5 million, $29 million guaranteed ($40 million over first three yars)

Scouting report: A classic high-risk, high-reward corner. Loves to gamble and guess and it pays dividends when he’s right, but he’ll get burned when he’s wrong. That’s a problem if the pass rush isn’t strong. He’s got a great nose for the football, though, and has terrific closing speed, which can make up for a lot.

DT DAMON HARRISON

Vitals: 6-4, 350, Age: 27

Stats: Played every game last three years. 1 ½ sacks.

Cost: 5 years, $46.25 million, $24 million guaranteed ($30 million over first three yaers).

Scouting report: Huge, strong, run-stuffing anchor in the middle of a defense. Not much of a pass-rusher, but a superior run-stopper that’s hard to knock off his spot. He’s been a 3-4 nose tackle, though, and the transition to a 4-3 tackle isn’t always easy. He probably can do it as long as he stays in that run-stopper role.
