Rueben Randle reportedly visiting with Rams

[ad_1]

Prince Amukamara and Robert Ayers went off the board over the weekend, and Rueben Randle might be the next former Giant to find a new home.

The 24-year-old receiver was enroute to Los Angeles on Monday for a free-agent visit with the Rams, according to the NFL Network. He is believed to have several visits scheduled if he doesn’t immediately sign with the Rams, which isn’t surprising considering he’s one of the most accomplished receivers left on a very thin market.

The Giants, however, appear to have shown little interest in bringing their former second-round pick back.

Randle caught 57 passes for 797 yards in what was generally viewed as a disappointing season in 2015. He did have a career-high eight touchdown catches, but he also frustrated his coaches and teammates with running apparently lazy routes and blowing some of his assignments. Those issues appeared to lead to at least three of Eli Manning’s 14 interceptions, possibly more.

The Giants are still in the market for a second receiver to play on the other side of Odell Beckham Jr. But with Marvin Jones (five years, $40 million from Detroit) and Mohamed Sanu (five years, $32.5 million), there aren’t many attractive options. The best ones are older (Anquan Boldin, Nate Washington, Andre Johnson) or come with other baggage (Mike Wallace, Percy Harvin).

The Giants are comfortable with Dwayne Harris (36-396-4 last season) as their third receiver and they are bringing Victor Cruz back, but the popular Cruz remains a big unknown because of knee and calf injuries and the fact that he hasn’t played in an NFL game since October 2014. They could also end up taking a receiver in the draft, perhaps in the second or third round.

Ayers, who led the Giants with 9 1/2 sacks last season, signed a three-year, $21 million deal (with $10.5 million guaranteed) with the Tampa Bay Bucs on Friday, the same day Amukamara signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with Jacksonville that guarantees him $3 million.

Meanwhile, the Giants were still technically in the hunt for free agent tackle Russell Okung, who visited the team on Friday. However, they did not appear to be frontrunners and there didn’t appear to be much optimism that they’d be able to sign him. Okung has since visited the Lions and the Steelers, and according to an NFL source he has at least one offer on the table from Pittsburgh. It wasn’t clear if the Giants had made an actual offer to him or if they simply discussed contract parameters (Okung is acting as his own agent).

Another source said the asking price for the 28-year-old tackle is likely too high for the Giants, especially since he’s coming off shoulder surgery and isn’t expected to be ready for football drills until this summer.
