GOLDREAM will go straight to Royal Ascot to defend his King’s Stand Stakes title after the ground at Haydock was declared unfavourable by trainer Robert Cowell.

Cowell had been targeting his dual Group 1-winner at the Group 2 Betfred Temple Stakes on Saturday but had warned the ground needed to be on the firmer side of good to run.

However, rain on Friday and overnight into Saturday resulted in the going at Haydock changing to good, good to soft in places from good to firm and Cowell elected to pull the plug on the race for his seven-year-old.

Goldream is a non-runner today on account of the recent rain,” Cowell wrote on Twitter. “He’ll head straight to Royal Ascot to defend his crown.”

Goldream’s stablemate Iffranesia has also been taken out of the Temple Stakes along with Sole Power and Take Cover.

Goldream is a 10-1 chance to win a second King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot next month with Muthmir and Acapulco leading the market at 6-1.
