Ronda Rousey thought about suicide after Holly Holm loss

[ad_1]

After getting knocked out by Holly Holm in UFC 193, Ronda Rousey sat in the corner of the medical room thinking that she couldn’t go on — with life

“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and that exact second I’m like, ‘’I’m nothing, what do I do anymore and no one gives a s–t about me anymore without this,’” a tearful Rousey told Ellen Degeneres in an interview that will air Tuesday.

Holm shattered Rousey’s unbreakable image in Australia, sending her to the canvas with a kick to the face in the second round. She hasn’t fought since that November meeting, and could return to action in August.

ROUSEY ‘REALLY F–KING SAD AFTER HOLM LOSS

Rousey’s choice of words to describe how she was feeling at the time is interesting. When her opponent in UFC 190, Bethe Correia, predicted victory, she said that she hoped Rousey wouldn’t “commit suicide” after the fight, prompting Rousey, who won the fight, to blow up on the Brazilian on Twitter.

“Suicide is no joke or selling point. My father will be with me the day I hand you the comeuppance you deserve,” Rousey tweeted last May.

Rousey’s father, Ron, committed suicide when Rousey was just 8-years-old.

Rousey went on to tell Degeneres that seeing her partner, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, pulled her out of the dark thoughts she was having at her lowest point as a professional.

“To be honest I looked up and I saw my man Travis was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive,” Rousey said.

She went on to say that the loss might have been a good thing for her, and that others could look at her as an example of resiliency.

“I really do believe that I’m still undefeated because being defeated is a choice,” she said. “Everybody has losses in their life but I choose to always be undefeated.”
