Rams have considered bringing Peyton Manning to LA: report

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning might have a new landing spot next season if he decides to return to the NFL.

Peyton Manning could have an option if he wants to play one more year.

The Rams have discussed coaxing Manning to Los Angeles, according to ESPN.com.

The quarterback still has another year on his deal with the Broncos, but many believe he won’t return to Denver — if at all. Manning turns 40 next month and there’s been heavy speculation that he will play his final game Sunday against the Carolina Panthers during Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara.

But if Manning — soon to be the oldest quarterback to play in a Super Bowl — wants to suit up again next season, the Rams are apparently willing to be an option. Manning can’t be much worse than the other guys the Rams trotted out in their final season in St. Louis.

The team traded for Nick Foles last season, giving up Sam Bradford in a deal with the Eagles, but Foles was so bad he was beaten out by noodle-armed Case Keenum by the end of the season.

Manning has yet to comment on his future, although all indications are that he’s headed for retirement. He was heard telling Patriots coach Bill Belichick after the AFC title game that this could be his “last rodeo.”

“I’ve tried to stay in the moment, tried not to look back,” Manning said Monday. “Just tried to stay in the moment.”

If Manning does return and play for the Rams, he would be the third great QB to land in California after his best years were over. Johnny Unitas played for the Chargers in 1973 and Joe Namath played with the Rams of Los Angeles in 1977.
