Persistence pays off the Rangers, who force overtime and get the win after outshooting the Canucks by a ridiculous 49-20 margin.

It was Miller time on both ends of the Garden Tuesday night.

Vancouver goalie Ryan Miller was lights out for the visitors, but J.T. Miller’s wraparound rebound goal 3:54 into overtime lifted the Rangers to a 3-2 win.

The Rangers (25-16-5, 55 points) outshot the Canucks (19-17-11, 49 points) by a wide margin of 49-20 but couldn’t get through really until late.

A night-long exercise of firing pucks into Miller, off posts and wide finally paid off when Mats Zuccarello tied the game at two apiece 11:46 into the third period off a smart assist from Keith Yandle and Rick Nash’s second helper of the night.

That sent the game to overtime with the Rangers up in shots on goal a whopping 46-19. Vancouver put a measly eight shots on Henrik Lundqvist in the final two periods and just two on the King in the third.

Zuccarello played on a line with Nash, centered by Kevin Hayes, with top offensive center Derick Brassard (illness) out of the lineup for the first time in 46 games this season. Vancouver also was playing without injured top center and captain Henrik Sedin.

Chris Kreider, who scored three goals in the Rangers’ weekend split of Philadelphia and Washington, created Derek Stepan’s game-tying goal at 4:18 of Tuesday night’s second period. Kreider won a puck battle and drew a penalty, then fed Rick Nash for a deflection and Stepan’s dunk on the 6-on-5 advantage for the delayed call.

Recently traded ex-Ranger Emerson Etem, however, helped the Canucks regain the lead at 16:11 of the second by dragging the puck out of a battle and feeding Alex Burrows in the crease for the easy redirection. The Canucks took the 2-1 lead into the third.

The Rangers unloaded 17 shots on Miller in the first period but trailed, 1-0, at intermission. Canucks center Bo Horvat torched Blueshirts defenseman Dan Boyle around the net and fed winger Sven Baertschi, who beat Nash to the spot for a goal on the doorstep – where Ranger opponents have scored way too often.

Another former Ranger, Canucks forward Brandon Prust, has fallen out of favor due to poor play in Vancouver but dressed against his ex-teammates in a game day change of plans by coach Willie Desjardins.
