New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is concerned that the NFL is violating the state’s laws against sexual orientation discrimination.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is concerned about NFL coaches asking prospective players about their sexual orientation.

Schneiderman sent a letter to the NFL this week to express his “serious concerns” about the types of questions being presented to players entering the NFL draft. His message comes two weeks after Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple said that a coach from the Atlanta Falcons asked him “So, do you like men?”

“I write today with serious concerns regarding the persistence of conduct at League-affiliated recruiting events that may violate New York State law concerning sexual orientation discrimination, and specifically regarding reports of an incident at this year’s Scouting Combine that appears nearly identical to the incident which triggered my office’s initial inquiry to the League (in 2013),” Schneiderman wrote, according to CBS New York.

Given that the NFL’s home base is in New York, Schneiderman has jurisdiction over the league.

Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple says a Falcons coach asked him if he liked guys.

Apple didn’t seem jarred by the questioning, and thought that the coach, Marquand Manuel, was trying to see how he would react.

“I guess he was joking,” Apple said. “But they just ask most of these questions to see how you’re going to react.”

The Falcons and the NFL did not think it was joke, however. Dan Quinn, Atlanta’s head coach, reprimanded his coach and explained to his entire staff “how inappropriate and unprofessional this was.”

The incident with Apple isn’t the first time questions at the NFL Scouting Combine have raised eyebrows. In 2013 Nick Kasa, a University of Colorado tight end, told ESPN Radio that he was asked if he liked girls and in 2010 then-Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland asked Dez Bryant if his mother was a prostitute.
