OFFICIALS at Musselburgh will inspect at 8am on the morning of racing ahead of Wednesday’s six-race card.

Clerk of the course Harriet Graham on Tuesday deemed it necessary to inspect the next day with concerns over temperatures possibly dipping to -2C.

The track, which had been frozen in past days, was raceable on Tuesday and Graham is confident they will be able to stage the meeting.

The Met Office forecast predicts temperatures to slowly rise to 3C on Wednesday after a potentially cold night.

‘We’re pretty hopeful’

Graham said: “Conditions have improved significantly over the last few days and the track is in much better shape this morning. We could have raced today and we’re pretty hopeful we’ll be fine tomorrow.

“Our only concern is if we drop to -2 tonight and the temperatures do not rise as quick as we would like in the morning. However, if the cloud cover remains, as it is forecast too, then we’ll be fine.”

Soft ground

The going is officially soft ahead of Wednesday’s card though Graham feels it won’t ride particularly deep or holding.

Graham added: “The ground will be fairly soft – we had 5mm yesterday – so it will be fairly loose, soft ground. It never gets deep and holding at Musselburgh, but it will be soft ground tomorrow.”
