MINDING, who was not quoted for the race during the week with her participation much in doubt, will after all bid for a 1,000 Guineas double at the Curragh on Sunday.

Ballydoyle, who had been odds-on for the Tattersalls-sponsored Irish 1,000 Guineas and had finished second to her stablemate at Newmarket earlier in the month, will miss the race.

Minding heads 14 declared runners for Sunday’s big race, along with stablemate Coolmore and Now Or Never. Also declared is the Kevin Ryan-trained Ashadihan and May Hill Stakes winner Turret Rocks. Even Song, Besharah and Ballydoyle were the three left out at the declarations stage.

Speaking to the Racing Post on Friday morning, trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “We’ve decided to declare Minding for the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas but Ballydoyle’s blood picture wasn’t 100 per cent right this morning and she won’t be declared.”

He added: “Vancouver, who was due to have his first run since joining us from Australia in the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday, will also miss his race as we weren’t happy with his bloods when we checked out our weekend runners this morning.

“It’s unfortunate as we were keen to run him with Royal Ascot in mind.”

O’Brien was considering heading straight to the Investec Oaks with Minding, and the Epsom Classic remains the target for the impressive 1,000 Guineas winner.

Big names clash in Tattersalls Gold Cup

All eight entrants for the other Group 1 on the Curragh Sunday card, the Tattersalls Gold Cup, stood their ground at the final declarations stage to create a potential classic.

Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Found is expected to go off favourite after beating the re-opposing Fascinating Rock in the Mooresbridge Stakes earlier in the month.

The Grey Gatsby returns for another tilt at the race after being beaten favourite last year, while Success Days, who split Found and Fascinating Rock in the Mooresbridge, and Time Test add extra spice to the race.
