Comments after we printed Guido Susi of The Bronx’ email:
“Showed the guys at the bowling alley. Bought a few copies to share and the pro shop owner is hanging the article in his sales window to try to keep this sport alive. So many bowling alleys have closed. I bowl at Homefield Bowl up in Yonkers. Thanks again. Guido Susi.”
“When I was growing up in Astoria, there were three bowling alleys: Fox, Norwood and Strand Lanes. All were located in basements and since space was at a premium, all were, if I remember correctly, just 16 lanes and all are gone now, but the buildings still stand. The red head pin strike to win a free game must have been a standard thing in the 60’s because at least 2 of the 3 had that also.
However, it always slowed down the game since you had to alert the counter before you attempted the strike so they could watch and verify the strike. No computers back then! Tim Sablik.”
Mighty was waiting on Oklahoma (-7 1/2) on Tuesday and likes Murray State on Wednesday. The surplus is 15 sirignanos.
