Grizzlies fans have fun at Derek Fisher’s expense on Saturday. 

MEMPHIS — In a surprising turn of events, Matt Barnes kept his cool.

The notorious hothead continued his verbal assault of enemy Derek Fisher with words before the game, warning the Knicks coach while defending his own violence from their October brawl with colorful words.

But then Barnes followed through on his pledge to avoid Fisher during Saturday’s contest, serving as a non-factor and quiet role player to Marc Gasol’s masterpiece in the Grizzlies’ 103-95 victory.

The self-described “Bad Guy” was so cool, in fact, that he scored just two points on three shot attempts. It was a tame night compared to Barnes’ pregame fireworks.

“I just don’t like (Fisher). Plain and simple. He knows I don’t like him,” Barnes said following the morning shootaround. “Don’t say nothing to me, I don’t plan on saying nothing to him. Don’t try to shake my hand. There’s none of that. There’s nothing there. There never will be. Just stay away from me basically.”

Barnes spent months insulting Fisher following their brawl in Southern California over the Grizzlies forward’s estranged wife, Gloria Govan. The incident cost Barnes a two-game suspension and roughly $64,000 in salary, but Saturday he said there were no regrets.

Fisher was reportedly romancing Govan, the mother of Barnes’ twin sons.

“Every man who looks at the situation knows what’s right and wrong. Violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is,” he said. “And unfortunately, it happened. I don’t regret it. Like, man to man knows who’s wrong and who’s right. The NBA decided to step in and did what they did. But it is what it is.”

For the most part, the Memphis crowd laid off Fisher. There was an ovation when Barnes entered the game in the first quarter, and boos when Fisher was introduced with the starting lineups. A fan made a sign of Fisher’s head attached to a snake, a reference to Barnes’ interview to the Daily News on Thursday when he said about the Knicks coach, “I don’t talk to snakes.”

But that was it, really. No chants. No long glares from Barnes. No exchanged words. Barnes got the final laugh when he sealed the victory on the foul line with 25.4 seconds remaining. He then hugged Knicks forward Kyle O’Quinn after the buzzer, slapped hands with Kristaps Porzingis and walked quietly off the court.

Fisher, who is from Arkansas across the river from Memphis, came out for the game wearing all-black – funeral colors – perhaps in hopes of burying this embarrassing controversy.

“Look man, we’re here to play basketball. This is a basketball game. This is not about me or what happened,” Fisher said.

“This is about the game. So if you guys have some basketball questions, that’s what I’m here for. I’ve answered all these questions plenty of times. There’s nothing to talk about. Decisions have been made. I say we move on.”

Barnes pledged to show restraint, and everybody kept their mouths shut and their hands to themselves.

“I know that I’m important to the team. … Me getting suspended is not good for the team,” Barnes said. “I know I needed to stop talking about this. It was kind of dead. I knew it would come up again once we started playing the Knicks, but for it to happen in October and get suspended in January is ridiculous. So it was kind of a dead situation. But I always knew that when we played them in February it would come up again.”

And oh yeah, Barnes still hates Fisher.

“Everyone from the top to bottom would’ve done the same thing (by fighting Fisher). When it comes to family, it’s family. Unfortunately, you have to watch who you call friends these days. That’s it,” he said. “I guess people just come up different ways and I guess he just came up in a different way. I can’t really say what I want to say because I’ve already been fined and suspended so … It is what it is.”
