Man buys $500 in fake NCAA tickets in Craigslist scam

An NCAA racket brought nothing but March sadness to one man who bought $500 in fake tickets off of Craigslist, police said on Sunday.

The 20-year-old man purchased the fraudulent tickets off of someone he met through the online classifieds site on Thursday, police said.

Once at the Barclays Center, just steps from the national college basketball tournament, he was informed the tickets were fakes.

The NYPD’s 19th Precinct issued a cautionary tweet on Sunday, advising people not to buy tickets via Craigslist, but also gave some safety suggestions for those who wouldn’t heed the warning: Meet at or near a police station or by a busy and well lit intersection, and do not go alone.
