A new movie depicts Lance Armstrong and the lengths he went to cover up his cheating.

The new Lance Armstrong movie, starring Ben Foster in the lead role, opens with the young cyclist from Texas, newly arrived in Europe, playing foosball with David Walsh, the Irish journalist who will later help bring him down. Armstrong wins the foosball game, but not without cheating of course.

“The Program” only gets less flattering from there, with Foster capturing the megalomania behind Armstrong’s doping and the cruelty he showed trying to cover it up.

“I have the money and the power to destroy you,” Armstrong tells a fellow rider who has testified against one of Armstrong’s crooked doctors. That 2004 incident did little to dent Armstrong’s angelic image at the time, mainly because Armstrong carried a “cancer shield,” to use a memorable term attributed in the film to Armstrong’s teammate, Floyd Landis.

FOSTER: DOING STEROIDS ‘DEFINITELY DAMAGED’ MY BODY

Directed by Stephen Frears, the new film is based on the book “Seven Deadly Sins,” by David Walsh — the Irish journalist, played by Chris O’Dowd, who loses the opening scene’s foosball game but ultimately succeeds in beating Armstrong to the truth.

Today in real life, Landis is the driving force behind a federal whistleblower suit in which the Justice Department is seeking up to $100 million from Armstrong — taxpayer dollars from the U.S. Postal Service, which sponsored his Tour de France teams. Armstrong’s attorneys have said the USPS benefited from the deal, even if the wins were bogus. Both sides are dug in for a fight, and the case could go to trial next year.

“Anything he can do to rehabilitate his image, he does it,” says Betsy Andreu, one of Armstrong’s fiercest critics. “He knows a jury will be listening to him, so if he can portray himself as a victim and sway people to sympathize, he will, even if it means rewriting history.”

Armstrong has a new friend in Instagram star Dan Bilzerian.

Armstrong is active on social media and makes public appearances with celebrities. He recently spoke to a classroom full of students at the University of Colorado, where he bad-mouthed the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which stripped him of his titles and had him banned from sports.

In the latest chapter of Armstrong’s “What, me worry?” attitude, the Texan and cancer survivor agreed to train millionaire playboy and Instragram star Dan Bilzerian for an upcoming Los Angeles-Las Vegas bike trip Bilzerian plans to undertake to settle a wager.

“It’s hard to ride with (Armstrong), because his easy is my busting my ass lol,” Bilzerian said in a text to the Daily News about hitting the road shotgun with Armstrong to prepare for the 270-mile city-to-city trek. “He ran 31 miles the day before we went and still kicked my ass.”

While Bilzerian’s Instagram account typically features any one of three things – head-snapping, scantily-clad women draped around a shirtless Bilzerian or large firearms caches or Bilzerian jetting off on a Lear jet to an exotic locale – he posted a short video clip featuring Armstrong, after the cyclist agreed to train him.

Let’s just say it hardly looks like the cyclist who was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles after his doping past was laid clear in a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency’s 2012 reasoned decision. Armstrong is seen riding stride for stride with Bilzerian down a highway, relaxing with the bearded playboy over a meal, admiring Bilzerian’s gun supply, and taking aim with an automatic weapon in what appears to be a desert shooting range. It’s about the bike, after all, and heavy firearms too.

Bilzerian placed a friendly – at least for him — $600,000 bet with a buddy that he can complete the L.A.-LV journey in 48 hours. He says he has to do the bike ride before the end of the month. Sounds like an easy win for Bilzerian, who says he completed 510 days of Navy SEAL training only to bow out two days before graduation. According to the muscle-bound Bilzerian, however, it has been anything but a cake walk.

“This is hell,” Bilzerian recently posted on Instagram, along with a black and white photo of him aboard a road bike. When Bilzerian’s friend, Joe Rogan, texted him about Armstrong’s interest in training him, Bilzerian wasn’t subtle about his glee to work with the cyclist. “F— Yes!!!” he texted to Rogan.

Bilzerian said Armstrong’s doping past was never an issue. “Most athletes are doping, (Armstrong) just got caught,” Bilzerian texted The News. “The guy is the best cyclist ever to live. When he offered to train me and only asked I donate to a children’s cancer charity if I won I was stoked.”

Although both men would appear to lean Republican, Bilzerian said he and Armstrong have not talked politics much in the election year, instead focusing their conversation on the Fourth Estate, and “how the media dictates people’s opinion… and then once you get bad press that same person will say what a scumbag you are just because it’s popular.

“I would never have such a strong opinion of someone I had never met, it’s a sheep mentality and it’s sad,” says Bilzerian.

People can form their own opinion of Armstrong by watching “The Program,” which was released on Friday in theaters on video-on-demand outlets like iTunes.
