TORONTO — With a familiar name, the Knicks finally filled their open roster spot by signing former draft pick Thanasis Antetokounmpo to a 10-day contract, sources confirmed.

The 23-year-old swingman, an unpolished player yet athletic defender, will start his first NBA stint Friday against the Suns, sources told the Daily News, giving him five games before the Knicks have to make a decision about his future.

Antetokounmpo, a Greek native who was drafted by the Knicks 51st overall in 2014, was cut from the training camp roster in October. He then returned to New York’s D-League affiliate in Westchester and has helped that squad to a 16-11 record and first-place in the Eastern Conference. He is also the brother of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

By signing Antetokounmpo, the Knicks passed on another player in their D-League system, Jimmer Fredette, who went from a lottery draft pick in the NBA to a journeyman who can’t get a contract. New York was also scouting point guard Toure’ Murry in the D-League, a source said, but apparently felt a wing defender was more important.

Antetokounmpo fills a void left by Cleanthony Early, who was shot in the leg during a robbery attempt and is out indefinitely.

Teams are allowed to give a player two 10-day contracts before either waiving him or signing him for the remainder of the season. The Knicks were very successful with two players on 10-day contracts last season — Lance Thomas and Langston Galloway — who developed into favorites of coach Derek Fisher.
