Tony Wroten brings some athleticism to a Knicks backcourt in need of a boost.

The Knicks are on the verge of securing some much-needed backcourt help, working to finalize a deal with free agent Tony Wroten, a source confirmed.

It’s expected to be a multi-year pact with few guarantees after this season. Wroten would slide into New York’s final roster spot vacated by Jimmer Fredette.

As reported by the Daily News, the Knicks met with the 22-year-old two weekends ago in New York. He was originally selected 25th overall by the Grizzlies in the 2012 draft, but was waived in December by the Sixers. He tore his ACL last season.

The Knicks were also looking at point guard Ray McCallum, who was recently waived by the Spurs.

With 34-year-old Jose Calderon unable to keep up with quicker guards defensively or attack the basket on the other end, the Knicks have been playing at a disadvantage all season. Rookie Jerian Grant counteracts some of that as the backup, but the 19th overall pick hasn’t earned the trust of the coaching staff.

Grant, who was acquired by the Knicks on draft night for Tim Hardaway Jr., has logged four DNPs and three games with fewer than 10 minutes since January. He did play 17 minutes in Saturday’s victory over the Pistons.

Like Wroten, Grant is not a good jump-shooter.

“Part of it is just having a three-guard rotation right now. Jose seems to be back on track again, shooting the ball a little bit better. Arron (Afflalo) is out there most of the time. Langston (Galloway) hasn’t been shooting the ball lately and we gave Jerian a little shot (on Friday against the Celtics) and that didn’t work well for him,” coach Kurt Rambis said. “That’s just part of experience. They changed the pick-and-roll coverage and it caught him off guard. It’s the toughest position in the NBA to learn. It really he is. He has a lot of learning to do but we have a lot of trust and faith in him. And I’d like to get him more time so he can get out there on the floor. It just hasn’t worked out.”

Wroten, 6-6, was having his best season in 2014-15 before tearing his ACL. He averaged 16.9 points on 40 percent shooting over 30 games.

Meanwhile, former draft pick Cleanthony Early was sent to the D-League to practice while the Knicks are on a six-game road trip. Early hasn’t played since getting shot in the leg during a robbery in Queens on Dec. 30. The Knicks expect him to return this season.
