Kidd’s Bucks beat Nets as Antetokounmpo gets triple double

Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and his freakishly long arms post a triple double in a win over the Nets in Brooklyn Sunday night.

Since Jason Kidd bolted for Milwaukee in the summer of 2014, Brook Lopez is the only Net who played for him remaining on Brooklyn’s roster.

Even his former boss, Billy King, and his successor, Lionel Hollins, lost their jobs earlier this year.

As Kidd said before defeating his former team, 109-100, at Barclays Center on Sunday night, he has his own concerns with a Bucks team sitting on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture – after qualifying in his first year at the helm – to think too long about the franchise he left behind.

“I can’t pay attention to that. I’ve got my own issues,” Kidd said of the Nets. “We’ve got a young team that’s trying to find a way to win. We have 16 games left and we’re going to try to win all 16. So what’s happening in other places doesn’t concern me.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo registered his fourth triple-double in his past 11 games – with 28 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds and an assortment of athletic dunks – and Jabari Parker scored 23 for Kidd and the Bucks (29-38).

Wayne Ellington was sidelined with an upper-respiratory issue for the Nets, who returned home following a season-long, nine-game (3-6) road trip. Lopez netted 20 points – his sixth straight game with at least that many — while Thaddeus Young had 17 and 10 rebounds and Sean Kilpatrick tied a career-high with 19 points including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Brook Lopez has been one of the few bright spots in a dark season for the Nets.

Since Kidd’s departure — after losing a power play with King and owner Mikhail Prokhorov over personnel control – star players Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson also have moved on from Brooklyn.

But Kidd praised Lopez for emerging from a few years of injury woes to average a team-best 20.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season, calling him “a total package.”

“There’s been a lot of change… coaches, teammates, practice facilities, arenas, so there’s been change,” Kidd added about the Nets, who dropped to 18-48. “They’re slowly, hopefully (rebuilding). They have someone great in (new GM) Sean Marks, and if they name a head coach or not, or keep (interim coach) Tony (Brown), hopefully they’ll have something that’s consistent and hopefully (Lopez is) a part of that.

“That happens in sports, change happens all the time, from coaches to players. The teams that tend to win are the ones who stick together or are together for a long time. You look at Golden State, you look at San Antonio, Oklahoma City, those are the teams that are on top in the NBA, those are the teams that tend to win. For Brooklyn and Milwaukee, we’re all trying to strive to be one of those teams.”
