West Indies captain Jason Holder sent Australia in to bat after winning the toss in the triangular series match at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Having lost David Warner for the rest of the tournament due to a broken finger, Australia gave an ODI debut to the left-hander Travis Head, who had his cap handed to him by Damien Martyn.

Head’s inclusion as a middle-order batsman, who also bowls offspin, was a pointed message to the out-of-sorts Glenn Maxwell, who was dropped before Australia’s previous match, a victory over South Africa. Nathan Coulter-Nile has again been subbed in for the resting Mitchell Starc.

The hosts named an unchanged team from the combination that was trounced by Australia in Guyana, meaning the dual spin of Sunil Narine and Sulieman Benn will again be employed.

West Indies 1 Johnson Charles, 2 Andre Fletcher, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Carlos Brathwaite, 8 Jason Holder (capt), 9 Sulieman Benn, 10 Sunil Narine, 11 Jerome Taylor

Australia 1 Aaron Finch, 2 Usman Khawaja, 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 George Bailey, 5 Travis Head, 6 Mitchell Marsh, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 James Faulkner, 9 Nathan Coulter-Nile, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Josh Hazlewood
