Joe Johnson has spent four seasons with the Brooklyn Nets.

When asked about Deron Williams accepting a buyout from his Nets contract last summer, Joe Johnson famously said during training camp that “it’s not that bad here” in Brooklyn.

Now, Johnson appears headed for the same fate as his former teammate. ESPN is reporting the sides have opened buyout negotiations on the remainder of his expiring contract, which would enable the seven-time All-Star to hook up with a playoff contender until he becomes a free agent this summer.

According to ESPN, several playoff teams (Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma City and Toronto) would have interest in adding Johnson once his buyout is completed.

Johnson, who was acquired in a multi-player trade with Atlanta in 2012, has started all 57 games for the Nets this season entering Thursday’s visit to Phoenix. He is averaging 11.8 points, his lowest output since 2002-03 — when he was with the Suns — in 33.9 minutes per game.

Johnson, 34, is fifth in career earnings in NBA history at more than $195 million, including the six-year, $124 million deal he signed with Atlanta in 2010. His $24.9 million salary this season is second only to Kobe Bryant at $25 million.

Recently hired Nets GM Sean Marks also waived veteran forward Andrea Bargnani on Saturday.
