To dispatch the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night, J.T. Miller made it Crazy Eights.

The Rangers’ young forward scored his eighth goal in eight games and assisted on Derick Brassard’s go-ahead goal 5:46 into the third period for a 4-2 win over the Wild at the Garden. The Blueshirts tied a season-best by allowing just 18 Minnesota shots on Henrik Lundqvist, who had been shaky in the first period.

“It seems like every puck you shoot is going in,” Miller said pre-game. “Hopefully it keeps going that way. But I can’t think about scoring goals. I have to keep my focus on how I’m playing and on the details of the game.”

“Going into a season you try to find stuff that works, and for a while it wasn’t as consistent as it should have been. Now Nasher (left wing Rick Nash) is out and those are big shoes to fill, but we need guys to step up. We’re just trying to find something to get that little bit more.”

The Rangers (28-18-5, 61 points) bounced back from Tuesday night’s 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils in Newark in which they surrendered a third-period lead. The goal-starved Wild (23-19-9, 55 points) are on a ridiculous slump, with a 1-8-1 record in their last 10 and just 16 total goals in that stretch.

Despite falling behind, 2-0, after the first period, the Rangers dominated the second, turning their defensive zone into a strange land for offensively-challenged Minnesota. Captain Ryan McDonagh (goal, assist) scored at 3:15 to halve the deficit off assists from Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan, then Miller tallied shortly after at 4:35 off Brassard and Dan Girardi helpers to tie the game heading into the third.

Minnesota did not register a shot on goal in the second period until former Devil captain Zach Parise put one on net 8:43 in, and only two Wild forwards had shots on Lundqvist by the end of the second period.

The Blueshirts started the night terribly slow, and the Wild scored twice in the game’s first eight minutes for a 2-0 lead after one.

Lundqvist didn’t come close to stopping ex-Devil Ryan Carter’s breakaway at 2:09, after Carter had blocked a Marc Staal shot to rush past the defenseman unimpeded. Then Minnesota defenseman Matt Dumba scored on the power play against the Rangers’ long-slumping penalty kill at 7:57, capitalizing on a Staal interference penalty.

The Rangers lineup continued to evolve with left wing Rick Nash (left leg bone bruise, day-to-day) out for a fourth straight game and defenseman Kevin Klein (broken right thumb) sidelined from an injury exacerbated Tuesday night in Newark.

Rookie D-man Dylan McIlrath replaced Klein for his fourth appearance in the past 15 games, and call-up forward Jayson Megna replaced healthy scratch fourth-liner Tanner Glass to add speed and play on the second power play unit.
