He scored the winner and pointed to the heavens.

High school hockey player Doug Caliendo took to the ice for Notre Dame West Haven in Connecticut just hours after his father Lou passed away from stomach cancer.

And in an ending straight from a movie script, the teenager went on to score an overtime winner against rivals Northwest Catholic in perfect tribute to his beloved dad.

“Tonight’s game was something that you really can’t write,” Tim Belcher, Notre Dame head coach, told News 8.

“You can’t think up something like that. For Doug to score the game winner on an emotional day after losing his father, it’s amazing.”

Doug Caliendo scored the winning goal just hours after his his dad Lou died Wednesday morning.

Before the game, both teams lined up to pay tribute Wednesday in a moment of silence to hockey fan Lou.

Caliendo was in the starting lineup for the Green Knights on defense, and showed immense courage to play following his tragic news.

Northwest Catholic raced into a 2-0 lead, but battled back to take the game to overtime before Caliente’s dramatic winner.

“Sometimes out of tragedy comes inspiration,” the school wrote on Facebook.
