Henderson: My Tent in great shape after gallop

MY TENT OR YOURS is set to tackle the Stan James Champion Hurdle in better shape than even trainer Nicky Henderson had expected after the race’s 2014 runner-up completed a Kempton gallop that pleased connections.

During a 12-horse workout session in which Cue Card, Cole Harden, Aux Ptits Soins and Saphir Du Rheu were among those who covered 2m on the flat, My Tent Or Yours was partnered by Barry Geraghty in an exercise alongside the Sir Anthony McCoy-ridden stablemate Hargam.

Both horses, who had also been to Kempton 15 days earlier, are set to contest the Champion Hurdle, but My Tent Or Yours – a best-priced 8-1 with bookmakers offering a non runner, no bet concession – will be racing for the first time in 703 days.

Henderson, who equipped My Tent Or Yours with the Citation bridle and net muzzle he will wear at Cheltenham, said: “He has come on a hell of a lot from his last time here. He has enjoyed himself and Barry said he was still tanking at the end.

“If luck is on our side we’ll get there and in good shape, better than I had probably dared hope three or four weeks ago when it looked as though we were up against it to get him really ready. Without having a run I think that’s as well as we could possibly do.”

Cue Card better than before the King George

Although interpreting the Kempton action was difficult, it was noticeable Britain’s leading Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Cue Card, back at the scene of his William Hill King George VI Chase triumph, was still pulling at the end of his gallop with OLBG Mares’ Hurdle entry Morello Royale.

“He was a bit keen but that’s him and we like him to be like that,” said Brennan. “We wanted him to come here and have a nice day out, and that’s exactly what he did. It will have done him the world of good and I can’t wait now.”

Revealing a little more of Brennan’s insight, trainer Colin Tizzard said: “Paddy said he was the fittest horse here and that he felt far better than he did before the King George.”

World Hurdle hopes

Last year’s Ryanair World Hurdle winner Cole Harden was joined by trainer Warren Greatrex’s Pertemps Final joint-favourite Missed Approach.

Greatrex’s head groom Graham Baines rode Cole Harden, and said: “The ground is not ideal but he’s worked well. That’s as good as he’s felt all year to me and I ride him all the time.”

Paul Nicholls watched World Hurdle candidates Aux Ptits Soins and Saphir Du Rheu in action under Sam Twiston-Davies and Nick Scholfield respectively.

Nicholls, who stressed Twiston-Davies has yet to decide which horse he will be on at Cheltenham, said: “I’m thrilled with both of them. Saphir Du Rheu is coming together really well. Better ground suits him.

Aux Ptits Soins is showing his old form again and went very nicely. It’s been a bit of a struggle to get there with him but we’re there now. He looks great and that’s just what he needed.”
