The Mets aren’t willing to make a long-term commitment with coveted free agent Yoenis Cespedes.

So the Mets are leaving the door open for a possible short-term deal with Yoenis Cespedes, as GM Sandy Alderson indicated when I spoke to him on Friday.

But I can’t find anyone else among agents and execs that I’ve talked to since who believe that has much chance of happening.

“If they think he’s taking a one-year deal, I don’t see it,” an exec from an AL team said. “I guarantee you at least a couple of teams will jump at the chance to get him for four years and $80 million, if his market falls that far.”

A prominent agent agreed.

“He’s too dynamic a talent to think someone isn’t going to pay him,” he said. “There are plenty of teams with money, even if they’re saying they don’t have it. I still think he’ll get at least $100 million.”

Cespede carried the Mets to the division title, hitting 17 homers in 57 games after coming to Queens at the July 31 trade deadline. In December, industry sources said the 30-year-old outfielder is looking for a deal in the neighborhood of six years at around $120 million. That is not the kind of neighborhood the Mets are interested in.

The Mets saw the good and bad in Cespedes, who had a rough time in the NLCS and World Series, in his three months and have determined that he is just not a long-term fit. He is 30 years old and the Mets don’t want to weigh down their payroll for six years to an aging player.

And despite his rocket arm, Cespedes struggled in center field in the World Series and appears more comfortable in left, where the Mets are going with youngster Michael Conforto.
