Giants sign French wide receiver Anthony Dable

The Giants are searching far and wide in their quest to find a complement to star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. And on Thursday, they headed overseas to add another option.

The club signed French receiver Anthony Dable, a source confirmed, adding a little-known target with a massive frame to a thin receiving corps. Dable, 27, is listed at 6-5, 215 pounds, and he spent the past two seasons posting monster numbers for the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions of Germany, racking up 145 catches and 32 TDs.

Dable was one of two European players the Giants worked out on Wednesday; the club also had British tight end Harry Innis in for a session in East Rutherford. Only Dable was signed.

The Giants’ search for a difference-making wide receiver has reached Europe.

It remains to be seen whether Dable will fit in with the Giants’ long-term plans, but he should get plenty of opportunity to prove himself during the club’s offseason program and possibly in training camp. Past Beckham, who has piled up 2,755 receiving yards and 25 TDs in his first two seasons, the Big Blue receiving corps is filled with question marks.

One-time star Victor Cruz hopes to return to form next season, but he’s coming off a lost 2015 in which he couldn’t even survive a practice, and, one season after reconstructive knee surgery, was shelved by a calf injury. Veteran Rueben Randle is almost certain to hit the free agent market after a lackluster campaign, Dwayne Harris remains at his best when utilized as a special teams weapon, and neither aging Hakeem Nicks nor Myles White proved to be a reliable threat last season.

Thus there will be plenty of opportunity this summer for Dable, and the Giants have never had a problem giving European talents a chance. Defensive tackle Markus Kuhn, a German product, started early last season, and years before that, defensive end Osi Umenyiora, born and raised in England, was one of the club’s top pass-rushers.
