The Giants add another piece to the coaching roster with addition of Aaron Wellman.

The Giants finally have a new strength and conditioning coach.

According to a source, the club will bring on board Aaron Wellman for the post. Wellman spent last season as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Notre Dame. Before that, he served of director of strength and conditioning for four seasons at Michigan.

He replaces Jerry Palmieri, the Giants’ longtime strength and conditioning coach, who was cut loose early last week. Palmieri was the club’s strength coach throughout Tom Coughlin’s 12-year tenure in East Rutherford, and he oversaw the Giants’ strength program through two Super Bowl runs. But in recent years, he’d taken the blame for a franchise that was hard-hit by the injury bug, consistently landing droves of players on injured reserve each season.

In Palmieri’s final two seasons, the Giants introduced several measures to curtail those injury issues, incorporating GPS technology to track practice workloads and adding full recovery days to the practice schedule. Wellman may bring some similar ideas; he introduced GPS tracking usage at Michigan.
