Kirk Cousins helps Washington to a division title and now is set for a big payday.

If it were up to his teammates, Kirk Cousins would already be one very rich quarterback. But as it stands, he’s just a quarterback in limbo, waiting to see from where his next paycheck will come and how big it will be.

“#PayTheMan,” Pierre Garcon tweeted, along with a picture of himself and Cousins.

With the Washington quarterback set to hit free agency, every Washington fan is wondering how their team will handle the situation. If the team can’t reach a long-term agreement with its quarterback, it could franchise him or let him hit the open market. If they do franchise Cousins, he might be happy to take the projected $19.8 million salary, per CBSSports.com, and play under that while potentially setting himself up for another big payday in 12 months.

So this could get interesting.

ESPN reported Tuesday that talks between Cousins and Washington had broken off, though multiple conflicting reports indicated otherwise. ESPN also reported on Wednesday that no long-term deal would be coming anytime soon.

That news may come to the dismay of teammates like Garcon and Washington defensive tackle Chris Baker, who tweeted Tuesday, “Come on (Washington) pay the man @KirkCousins8 #ILIKETHAT.”
