The Daily News took home Top 10 honors in four different categories, including best Sunday section, in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest.

“It just shows how the Daily News continues to provide the best sports coverage in the city,” said Sports Editor Eric Barrow. “These honors are just a testament to the the tireless work by our entire staff.”

Judges at APSE’s winter meetings this week in St. Petersburg, Fla., awarded Daily News sports writer Mark Feinsand Top 10 beat writing honors for his exhaustive coverage of the Yankees, which included CC Sabathia’s first interview after leaving alcohol rehab and Jason Giambi’s retirement announcement.

Wayne Coffey’s explosive story about how an undercover New York cop tackled and then falsely arrested tennis star James Blake earned Top 10 honors in the breaking news category.

The Daily News Sports Investigative Team — Teri Thompson, Christian Red, Nathaniel Vinton, Mary Papenfuss and Michael O’Keeffe — won Top 10 honors in the investigative category for their continuing coverage of the FIFA scandal.

The Daily News’ Sunday sports section was also picked as one of the nation’s best by APSE judges for the ninth straight year.

“For decades our Sunday section has been a prime destination for readers, and we strive to provide the excellence expected of us each week,” Deputy Sports Editor/Sunday Ian Powers said. “That our current streak of nine straight Top 10 awards for Sunday is unmatched nationally is a tribute to the brilliance and hard work of our entire team.”

APSE judges also gave the Daily News honorable mention in the special categories category.

The Daily News competes in APSE’s largest division, for newspapers with circulations greater than 175,000.
