Always keep your eye on the ball, or in this case, the bat.

During Saturday’s Pirates-Braves spring training game, a player lost handle of his bat, flinging it into the stands and nearly hitting the face of a young fan before the man next to him, presumably his father, stuck his arm out to deflect the bat away.

The moment was captured by Pittsburgh Tribune-Review photojournalist Christopher Horner, who shared the photo on Twitter.

The photo shows the elder man’s arm directly in front of the kid’s face as the bat makes contact with him.

The child appeared to be looking at his cellphone as it all unfolded.

Fortunately nobody was hurt, but the photo serves as a reminder to always pay attention to the game, especially if you’re sitting close to home plate.
