Ruben Tejada is moving from the blue and orange to the Cardinals red on a one-year deal.

Ruben Tejada wasn’t out of work for long.

The ex-Mets shortstop signed a one-year, $1.5 million guaranteed free agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.

The Cardinals made the announcement on Twitter.

Tejada was released by the Mets on Wednesday after he cleared waivers. The move allowed the 26-year-old Panamanian to sign with any team.

The Mets wanted to part ways with Tejada, best remembered for having his leg broken by an ugly slide from Chase Utley during last season’s playoffs, because they felt his $3 million salary was too high for a light-hitting backup middle infielder.

As the Daily News first reported, the Mets’ plan coming into spring training was to cut ties with Tejada.

The Yankees had offered Tejada a minor league deal with an invite to the big-league camp, a source told the Daily News. He rejected the offer.

Tejada, who became an inspirational figure for the club and fans after the Dodgers’ Utley broke his leg in Game 2 of the NLDS, is a career .255 hitter in parts of six seasons. He was once considered the heir apparent to Jose Reyes.

The Mets added shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera in the offseason, but he is currently dealing with a patella tendon strain. Cabrera said earlier this week he will be ready for Opening Day. Wilmer Flores will be the Mets’ primary backup at short.
